Self-Guided and Guided Kayak / Stand-up Paddle Board and Cycle Tours

As “experience makers,” we take great pride in taking a simple activity, sprinkling it with island joy, and transforming it into a meaningful and memorable experience. Secret places, local flavours, and little surprises enhance our self-guided and guided bicycle and kayak tours, allowing our guests to connect to our area  in a unique and special way. Suitable for visitors and locals of all fitness levels, they offer a chance to experience the Comox Valley, Campbell River, and Quadra Island regions from a local’s perspective.

Chef Series

We are pleased to offer the following four unique culinary experiences – all of which feature a private chef, a behind-the-scenes look at our local food scene, a leisurely cycle or kayak, and culminate with a 4-course meal paired with local wine/beer.

*All fitness levels are welcome. Island Joy Rides provides everything – bikes, support vehicles, water bottles – so that all you have to bring is yourself. Space is limited.

Chef on a Bike: Sea Sites & Salty Bites – June 23, 2019

Join one of the island’s top chefs, Chef Richard of Ocean 7 Restaurant and Aqua Bistro & Wine Bar at Kingfisher Oceanside Resort & Spa on a culinary journey exploring the Village of Cumberland this June. Your tour will start with a shuttle to Cumberland, where we will cycle easy forest paths to our special culinary places. Partners including Stellar Bay Oysters and Wayward Distillery will share their bounty with you in unique and unexpected ways. A multi-sensory experience, Sea Sites and Salty Bites will culminate in a 4-course family-style lunch overlooking the Salish Sea at the Kingfisher, created just for this Island Joy Rides.  Space is limited on this unique culinary experience. Chef on a Bike: Forage & Feast – July 20, 2019

On Saturday July 20th, Island Joy Rides will team up with Chef Ronald and his talented team at Locals Restaurant for the fourth year of Chef on a Bike: Forage and Feast. It’s an opportunity to experience the Comox Valley from a unique perspective. This one day, hands-on experience will allow guests to be a part of a chef’s journey from market to plate as we cycle some of the most beautiful routes in our area. Add Dianne MacLean, local Metis Elder and teacher of wildcrafting and foraging, and the team from Wayward Distillation House to create a memorable culinary experience that is suitable for all fitness levels.

Chef on a Bike: Route Beer – August 17, 2019

On Saturday August 17, 2019 as our long summer days shine upon us, Island Joy Rides is teaming up with the Chef and team from The White Whale Restaurant in Courtenay for a day of biking, feasting and beer pairing. This unique culinary tour offers a chance to get up close and personal with the farmers and brewers on Vancouver Island. Spectacular cycling routes, engaging conversations, and an immersive feast (expertly paired with beer!!) make for a joyful and memorable experience.

Quadra Island Escape

 

As you walk off the ferry onto Quadra Island, you will feel like you’ve escaped to another world. Quadra Island is home to a vibrant community with strong ties to the land and sea. From artists to farmers, First Nations to fishermen, Quadra’s stunning scenery, friendly people, and rich history will leave an impression on your soul that will last a lifetime. 

This tour can be completed self-guided or guided.  All fitness levels are welcome.

Explore Campbell River’s Woods & Waves

 

 

Campbell River boasts natural beauty at every turn.  From the majestic forest trails to the scenic coastal trails, its wild and rugged character is waiting to be discovered.  Chat with our personable First Nations artists as they create their works of art, breathe in the salty air as you cycle the seaside path, savour the local flavours (like the biggest ice cream in town!) as you slow down and explore this hidden gem. The Tyee Spit, Elk Falls Suspension Bridge, Beaver Lodge Lands, the Seawalk, and Discovery Fishing Pier are some of the highlights of this island cycling tour.

                                Sunset Paddle

 

 

Experience the estuary with a leisurely kayak or SUP on a dreamy evening in Campbell River this summer.  Where the river meets the ocean, the estuary is in the heart of our city.  Described by our guests as “a Disney ride through the Amazon,” this sunset paddle in the secret channels of this magical place takes you to another world, offering a chance to slow down and immerse in nature. With majestic bald eagles soaring above; curious seals, herons, and beavers watching you quietly glide through their world; and spawning salmon completing life’s journey beneath you. A kayak of the estuary is a must-do Campbell River experience.

Wine & Chocolate is an ideal tour for locals, visiting friends and relatives, and tourists who want to get out on a bike to taste and explore their way around Comox Valley for an afternoon. Breathe in the fresh air as you meander along quiet roads and trails; sample local wine and savour decadent, hand-made chocolates. Joy Rides guides take care of the details – bikes, helmets, routes, snacks, and water – so you can experience the joy of biking, the simplicity of slowing down, and the (re)connection with some of the Comox Valley’s most delicious and decadent treats. All fitness levels are welcome on this leisurely and engaging experience.
